Saturday Morning Team Chase Trophy Treble

Added by Keith Long on 17th March, 2011 |

Beechfield United’s Saturday Morning Open Age Team have a great chance of winning three trophies in the Manchester Saturday Morning League. They currently lead the Second Division by eight points and are through to the semi-final’s of the Manchester Evening News Cup and the CFFL Shield.

In the first of three recent fixtures Beechy easily secured their spot in the MEN Cup semi-final’s thanks to an emphatic 9-1 win over Redvales and Warthfold Metro. The goals came via Phil Heyworth (3) Man of the Match Gareth Burns (2) Dean Quinn (2) Wes Pierce and Andy Lord.

Then Phil Heyworth achieved his second successive hat-trick when United beat Worsley Town 8-0 in the CFFL Shield. Also on target were Mike Heyworth (2) Dean King, Roy Owen and Wes Pierce. Throughout the contest United produced some brilliant attacking football on the 3G Astroturf Pitch at Salford Sports Village.

A narrow 1-0 victory against West Didsbury restored United as favourites for the Second Division title. On a poor pitch the match proved to be a scrappy affair but Beechy were always the better side and their winning goal arrived in the 26th minute courtesy of a superbly executed free kick by Dean Quinn.

Throughout the second half West Didsbury fought hard for an equaliser but they failed to create any clear-cut chances and simply ran out of ideas during the latter stages. United’s Man of the Match was Andy Lord.

U10′s Hurricanes v Leigh RMI

Added by Jay Roche on 12th March, 2011 |

Both teams went in to the game under the impression it was a Supp Cup tie.  With only 3 games to get through to the final and not having the best of seasons, I tried to gee up the lads to have some piece of silverware this season.  But then, Leigh has always been our bogey team…

U10s Hurricanes v De La Salle Scorpions (friendly)

Added by Jay Roche on 5th March, 2011 |

Our Divisional Secretary had a nightmare in getting all of the fixtures working in the shambles of the COSSL website which somehow gave us another league game against De La – having already played both fixtures this season.  So not to miss playing, both teams arranged a friendly so the lads could have a run out.  We used it as a game to let the newer legs on the teams get as much game time as possible.  And what a game it turned out to be. Tornadoes drew Salford Vics in round one of The Supplementary Cup.  This years competition is a straight knock out due to time and the weather, So it was must win if we wanted to progress and have the chance to play at Ayrshire Rd again.

It was touch and go if the match was to go ahead as again the rain decided it was Friday Night /Saturday morning and fell making the pitch a real leveller.

U10s Tornadoes v Barr Hill Aces

Added by Jay Roche on 19th February, 2011 |

After a disappointing performance last week going out in the Challenge Cup, (albeit with a make shift defence and a flat 7 players) I was  looking for a good response in the League.
