Following the unfortunate scoreline from the previous week, this weeks game could have gone either of 2 ways – the lads could slip back in to Holidays mode after one game back, or they could continue to show the determination to fight for that first win. Thankfully, the selection boxes were all behind us as they put in another sterling performance – even in the pouring rain! Read more…

U12,2 Hurricanes v Salford Victoria 7.1.2012
U12’ s Hurricanes v Salford Victoria 7.1.2012 As Hurricanes welcomed a new team to the division would the new year start with a victory just as 2011 had finished? Ryan (hot shot) Curran greeted SalfordVictoria’s captain and the referee at the centre spot to carry out the pre match formalities. Hurricanes started the match the stronger team and began to apply pressure forcing the opposition back deep into their own half, Ben and James both going close but lacking composure just when it was required in front of goal. Despite Salford’s lowly league position their passing and determination was beginning to restore the balance ...
Hurricanes go marching on!
U12’ s Hurricanes v Swinton Lions Challenge cup 10.12.2011 Hurricanes go marching on! A convincing 4-1 victory against Swinton Lions sees Hurricanes into the next round of the challenge cup for the first time in many years. Up for the challenge despite being without Bradley Zazuum Smith their regular keeper a returning Kia Leonard (broken arm) stood in for the absent Zazuum as skipper for this game. From the whistle Kai started accurately passing the ball out to both wings, something that had been lacking from their game in the last few weeks and so Hurricanes were able to create the first of many openings. ...
Youth Cup Glory For U/11s Storm
Congratulations go to the Under 11s Storm who made it through to the Semi-Final's of the MCFA Youth Cup. In the Quarter-Final's United who faced Glossop North End away fully deserved their 2-1 victory. Beechy produced a brilliant first half display and led 1-0 at the break courtesy of a goal from Jordan Coates. In the second period Glossop North End looked better organised and were rewarded with an equalising goal but United stepped up a gear and Jordan Coates was on target again with the match winner. Ethan Haynes and Jace Winspear shared the Man of the Match Award. ...

A Look Back to December 1997
When I did my first match reports for Beechfield United FC back in 1997 I had no typewriter so they were hand written and sent via fax to the Salford Advertiser Sports Desk. Fourteen years later things are much easier thanks to the e-mail facility. So lets look back to 1997 and see the details of the last games played that year which took place on Saturday 20th December.

Saturday Morning Senior Team (29/10/11 to 10/12/11)
On 29th October 2011 the Saturday Morning Senior Team cruised to an emphatic 8-0 away win over Sporting Media in the Manchester Evening News Cup. United totally dominated this Round 1 tie and the result was never in doubt thanks to some superb team work and goals from Dean Quinn (3) Wes Pierce (2) Roy Owen (2) and Mark Carney. Man of the Match was Ben Donohue.
U12s Hurricanes v Barr Hill Aces – 3/12/11
A tough away fixture against high flying Barr Hill Aces awaited Hurricanes on a bitterly cold and wet Saturday. Could they carry on from last weeks convincing victory or as the history books show, come away from Bolton road with nothing?
U11′s Hurricanes v Boothstown Juniors – 3/12/2011
Cold weather, torrential rain, and a squad of 9 (including missing a keeper) made our first encounter of the fortnight a tough fixture against Boothstown Juniors. We we planning on making it a dress rehearsal for the Challenge Cup game against them next week but in the end we simply just had to play it as it came.
U10s Tornadoes v Barr Hill Hearts (Challenge Cup)
The Challenge Cup took us away to Barr Hill and their 3rd Division Team Hearts. On paper this should have been an easy win, but the Cup (as they say) can bring up surprises. Read more…

U10s Hurricanes v Manchester Maccabi
First game after the big freeze and Christmas break and the lads had not kicked a ball together for over 6 weeks. Would the big break have allowed them to recharge batteries, or run them down? The last Maccabi game was a close call… history repeated itself.
U10s Tornadoes v Salford Vics
After all the bad weather and some snow just the day before, it was a pleasure to return to playing football. A very early start for our home game with Salford Vics. But you do what you can to play after all these postponements.
Another Defeat for Beechy Reserves
United’s Reserve team suffered another defeat in the Bridgewater Office Supplies Manchester League when they lost 2-0 at home to Wythenshawe Amateurs Reserves. Currently United occupy next to bottom place in Division 3 with just five points after eleven games played. Almost all other fixtures in the league were postponed but there were no problem’s at Salford Sports Village where United’s 3G Astroturf Pitch provided the team’s with a perfect playing surface.
Wythenshawe Amateurs who produced some superb football throughout the match made a confident start and had the luxury of taking the lead in the 8th minute. Following a corner United were guilty of some woeful defending allowing the visitors No 7 an easy headed goal from about 10 yards. United struggled to contain their talented opponents and stand-in keeper Lee Wallis made at least five great saves in quick succession.
Chances of an equaliser for Beechy were rare and shots from distance by Steve Erskine, James Brierley and Andrew Traverse all drifted wide of the target. Knowing they needed an improved performance United briefly showed better attacking idea’s early in the second half but they continually failed to find the end product after creating some easy chances.
Slightly against the run of play Wythenshawe Amateurs were gifted their second goal when several United defenders were given the opportunity to clear the ball out of the danger zone but somehow following a goalmouth scramble it ended up in the back of the net. Another three outstanding saves by keeper and Man of the Match Lee Wallis during the last fifteen minutes made sure United didn’t suffer a heavier defeat.

Girls Suffer County Cup Defeat
There was real disappointment for the Under 14s Girls team following their Manchester FA County Cup semi-final tie against Curzon Ashton. The team’s were level at 3-3 after normal time and because the competition rules stated that extra time was not required the girls were suddenly faced with the taking of spot-kick’s to decide the outcome and unfortunately it was Curzon Ashton who won the shoot-out and progressed to the final.
The match was fairly entertaining and United took the lead via an own goal but poor defending allowed Curzon Ashton a gifted equaliser. United created a few decent scoring opportunities to regain the lead but some poor finishing let them down and it remained 1-1 at the interval.
A goal by Aimee Wallace put United 2-1 up and they briefly controlled the game until Curzon Ashton were back level again when the ball was forced into the net following a goalmouth scramble. When Sophie Hall got United’s third goal the girl’s were obviously dreaming of playing in the final but their hopes were shattered when Curzon Ashton were awarded a penalty which was converted and during a tense last few minutes both team’s had chances to score a winning goal before they faced the spot-kick decider.
