After making a sluggish start United went ahead in the 21st minute and led 2-0 seven minutes later courtesy of two goals by Trevor Walsh and the Wilmslow Albion defence faced immense pressure as Beechy dominated possession. The visitors who had created only a few worthwhile attacks somehow managed to get a goal back shortly before half time.

United quickly regained control as the second half developed and added goal number three via David Leach and when Gareth Mooney’s brilliant goal made it 4-1 after 58 minutes a comeback by Wilmslow Albion appeared to be rather remote. But without warning United became complacent and relaxed their grip on the match and suddenly Wilmslow Albion started to play with more freedom and belief.

Following a corner they scored their second goal after United were guilty of some woeful defending and the alarm bells started to ring when Wilmslow Albion made it 4-3 in the 84th minute. United survived a tense last few minutes and collected three valuable points. Man of the Match was Neil Lancaster while both Tim Taylor and Steve Erskine played well throughout.

The Reserves who drew 3-3 with Royton Town (A) almost tasted a rare victory after leading 3-0 at the interval thanks to goals from Gary Wallis, Steven Griffiths and James Brierley. United produced some brilliant football in the first half of this Division 3 fixture but as the heavy pitch began to deteriorate in the second half their quick and accurate passing game became less effective.

Royton Town who had reverted to using the long ball tactic started to reap the rewards when they scored three goals in quick succession but they were lucky to draw this match after being outplayed by United for long periods. United’s Man of the Match Award went to Lee Buckley.

The Saturday Morning Open Age team returned to winning ways after their away game at Chadderton FC. Following two successive home defeats a 1-0 victory gave United an eight point lead at the top of Manchester Saturday Morning League’s Second Division.

In a highly competitive encounter Chadderton FC looked the better side in the first half but United dominated the second period and Dean Quinn was on target with the match winning goal. Keeper Dan Lee had a superb game but it was full back Andy Lord who was voted Man of the Match.

Forced team changes each week have been a major problem but in three of the last five games United have played well and only lost by the odd goal. Goals by Lee Ashworth and James Brierley were scant reward for United who narrowly lost 3-2 to Wythenshawe Town Reserves. Gary Wallis and Luke Johnston shared the Man of the Match Award.

Following some woeful defending United went down 4-3 at Wythenshawe Amateurs Reserves. Beechy worked hard throughout and found equalising goals on three occasion’s via Gary Wallis (2) and James Brierley and looked certain to earn a valuable point but the home side snatched victory with virtually the last kick of the match.

In the away game verses West Didsbury Reserves goals by Steve Crowe and Gary Wallis had twice given United the lead in the first half but the home side led 3-2 at the break and eventually claimed a 6-2 runaway success.

A much improved display against Dukinfield Town Reserves  failed to produce a much needed victory. United were a goal down in less than five minutes and trailed 2-0 at half time. Despite playing some brilliant football throughout  the second half  United’s only consolation arrived when James Brierley scored from the penalty spot. Man of the Match was Lee Buckley.

Once again poor defending was to blame when United slumped to a 6-1away defeat to Manchester Gregorians. In the first half four goals were conceded following set-pieces and United never recovered from the set-back. James Brierley was voted Man of the Match and Kyle McPhee got the only goal.

Beechy outplayed the visitors during the early stages and they were disappointed when Chapel Town took the lead just after the half hour mark. But thanks to a fine opportunists goal scored by James Brierley United were soon back on level terms.

As the second half developed there were good performances from Steven Griffiths, Stephen Davidson and Man of the Match Dave Simmons and on 65 minutes United went 2-1 up courtesy of substitute Mike Banwo. Both teams continued to play at a high tempo and a brilliant solo run and quality finish by Chapel Town’s No10  made it 2-2 in the 77th minute.

Then in midweek United lost 1-0 to Eccles Sunday League outfit Weaste FC. Player of the Match was central defender Tim Taylor.

But United quickly returned to winning ways when they produce an awesome display away at Bedians FC a team from the Lancashire and Cheshire League. Man of the Match David Leach (2) Mike Leach and Trevor Walsh fired in the goals as Beechy enjoyed a 4-1 victory.

The Reserves looked highly impressive in their Friendly Match with Salford Victoria. But despite creating the better football United who led 2-0 and 4-3 were forced to settle for a 4-4 draw. The goals came via Gareth Mooney (2) 1penalty, David Leach and M-O-M Tony Weall. But seven days later United lost 2-0 away to a Bedians XI. Richard Farnie was the team’s Best Player.

United’s Saturday Morning team gave a classy and dynamic performance at home to Redvales and Warthfold Metro. In a totally one-sided friendly United who led 6-0 at half time eventually cruised to an emphatic 8-0 victory. Goalscorers were Wes Pierce (3) Dean Quinn (2) Roy Owen, Stephen Evans and Ben Donohue while Chris Lucas had a superb game at the heart of the defence.

The match was played on a 3G Astroturf Pitch at Platt Lane the home of Manchester City’s Academy Teams but United who had a strong line up on view made a slow start and Manchester Gregorians had chances to take the lead in the opening quarter hour.

Gradually Beechy found a better rhythm and started to play with more confidence and both Alex Hunter and Stephen Griffiths came close to giving United the lead then a superb effort by Steve Erskine beat the keeper but the ball hit the crossbar and bounced back into play. In the 27th minute Manchester Gregorians got their match winning goal courtesy of the long ball tactic and though their centre forward appeared to be in an offside position when he received the ball he raced clear of United’s defenders and was left with an easy finish.

In the second half United dominated possession and with Man of the Match Steve Erskine and Stephen Griffiths controlling the midfield area an equalising goal seemed a certainty.

A shot from distance by Aaron Dennis left the keeper stranded but the once again the crossbar rescued Manchester Gregorians who relied heavily on a well organised defence as United piled on the pressure and Beechy were still attacking as the whistle went for full time.

Beechy bossed the match from start to finish and their brilliant performance was rewarded with a 9-0 victory.

In ideal conditions a goal after only three minutes by Luke Johnston gave United the perfect start then Gary Wallis made it 2-0 four minutes later. Briefly Avro Reserves put pressure on United’s back four but with central defenders Richard Farnie and Aaron Dennis in excellent form the home side never looked capable of getting a goal. M.Leach, Griffiths and Sinnott all wasted easy chances before Gary Wallis added goal number three when he superbly hammered the ball into the roof of the net from about 20yards and from that moment United totally dominated the contest.

Avro Reserves faced a torrid time especially in the second half and two minutes after the interval David Walker made it 4-0 then as United piled on the pressure he was on target again with the fifth goal in the 51st minute. All three United substitutes Browne, Crowe and Alex Hunter joined the action and it was the latter who who put Beechy 6-0 up on 70 minutes and two minutes later Man of the Match Jamie Sinnott scored goal No 7.

Full credit to Avro Reserves who showed a good team spirit but could never deal with United’s all-round strength and ability and after creating so many chances Beechy should easily have hit double figures. David Walker claimed his hat trick with the eight goal and a rare goal by Richard Farnie five minutes from the end completed the scoring. To make matters worse Avro Reserves saw their best player receive a red card in the final minute.

United play their last match of the season next Saturday away at Manchester Gregorians Reserves.

In ideal conditions United made a slow start to the match and the four man defence of Gary Wallis, Richard Farnie, Aaron Dennis and Andrzej Browne were given a stern test in the opening fifteen minutes, Alex Hunter had United’s first real scoring chance but following a great piece of skill the Elton Vale keeper produced an acrobatic one handed save.

While Elton Vale relied heavily on the boring long ball tactic United continued to produce some attractive football and only a well operated offside tactic ruined some of their slick attacking moves. United displayed more confidence in the second half and with Jamie Sinnott, Steven Griffiths and Steve Erskine dominating the midfield area Beechy gradually took control and scored their winning goal in the 60th minute. Erskine sent a perfectly weighted pass between two defenders and the unmarked Steven Crowe raced clear and easily went past the keeper before sidefooting the ball into the empty net. Elton Vale made a brave attempt to find an equalising goal but they ran out of ideas and United were able to ease their way to a fully deserved victory.
