Beechfield United Under 13s started their build up to the forthcoming season with a decent performance in their friendly match against Leigh RMI. Due to the heatwave conditions the teams agreed to play three periods of 25 minutes and United led 1-0 then 3-1 before they completed a 5-3 victory. Team captain Steven Thompson scored four goals and Steven Baxter netted the other. (8/8/99)

Beechy Under 11s made it thirty two goals in three games when they ran riot and won 16-0 against Barr Hill. In a totally one-sided contest goalscorers were Gareth Caldwell (7) Dean Quinn (4) Charlie Martin (2) Phil Jones, Dave Street and Jordan Lang. In the Bury and Radcliffe Junior League the Under 12s overpowered opponents Elton Fold to win 5-1. Beechy triumphed via goals from Jamie Howell (2) Scott Smith (2) and Chris Seery. The Under 15s had Lee McCann (2) BJ Tennant (2) Paul Tattersall and Matthew Thompson on target in a comfortable 6-1 victory over Bury Juniors. United’s Under 16s (B) team were involved in a thrilling match with Dobbies FC who came out on top thanks to a 5-4 win. Goals for Beechy were scored by Matthew Marsden, Gary Ramage, Chris Dack and Michael Turner. (12/9/99)

In the Senior Section the 2nd team produced an extraordinary display against Bedians who previously hadn’t lost a league game for eighteen months. On a pitch in excellent condition the Beechfield players displayed some marvellous attacking play full of both power and pace and United who were 4-0 up at the interval eventually celebrated a 7-1 victory. Despite their reputation Bedians were torn apart as United continued to destroy their opponents with more superb passing moves and first class teamwork. Goalscorers for Beechy were Anthony Weall (4) Kevin Bailey (2) and Richard Jackson. The 3rd team remained on top of Division 3 after a 4-2 win over Irlam Steel but United’s overall performance was less than impressive. The highlight of the match was a hat-trick for Darren Minshull while a Dave Cox header made up the tally. (23/10/99)

On Sunday 31st October 1999 the best performance of the day came from the Under 16s (A) team who beat Lancaster City Youth 4-1 away in Round 3 of the Soreen LFA Youth Cup. The teams were level at 1-1 at half time but United stepped up a gear and totally dominated a one-sided second half. John Hudson (2) Danny Rowcroft and Ryan Williams scored the goals.

There was a blank weekend for all Beechfield United’s Senior and Junior teams when the adverse weather caused the postponement of all scheduled games on Saturday 4th December/Sunday 5th December 1999.

On Saturday 22nd January 2000 star striker Anthony Weall scored all the goals for the 2nd team who enjoyed a 5-1 home win over Stretford Victoria in Division A of the Lancashire and Cheshire Amateur Football League. This brought Tony’s goal tally to 12 in 3 games. On the same day substitute Andy Collins made his first team debut in a 3-1 away win over Moston Brook.

BUFC paid tribute to Under 11s Team Manager Mike Caldwell who died in January 2000 after a lengthy illness caused by Crohn’s Disease. A minutes silence was observed at all games played on 9th/15th & 16th involving all Junior & Senior Section teams.

United’s Senior 3rd team who were joint leaders in Division D of the L&C League were involved in a ten goal thriller with Bedians FC which finished level at 5-5. Beechy had to field a weakened team so they were happy not to lose this match. On target was Gary Borg (4) plus an own goal. The Under 10s (Mini-Soccer) took on Eccles Amateurs and gave a creditable display winning one and losing three of the four games played. In the Salford Junior Sunday League’s Knock-Out Cup the Under 11s played Swinton Boys. The teams were level at 1-1 (Gareth Caldwell  from the penalty spot was on target for United) after normal and extra time. But Beechy went out of the competition following a penalty shoot-out. (29th & 30th January 2000)

The Under 11s lost 2-0 at home to Swinton Boys while the Under 12s losing sequence continued when they were beaten 3-2 by North Walkden. An own goal plus one from Scott Coates made up United’s total. Following a dull and boring encounter with Unsworth FC the Under 16s (A) team collected three points after goals by Wesley Aston, Marc Hinde, Danny Rowcroft and David Walker gave them a 4-2 away win. (5/3/2000)

In the Salford Junior Sunday League the Under 11s ended the season with a 1-0 win over Bury FC Juniors. Goalscorer was Jamie Royle. Beechy Under 13s trailed Barr Hill 4-0 at half time but responded superbly after the break and didn’t deserve to lose the match 6-3. The goals came from Paul Hutchins, Cairon McConnon and Steven Thompson. (16/4/2000)

Beechfield United Under 16s (A) (Bury and Radcliffe Junior League) won the Angouleme Cup following a 3-1 victory in the final over North Walkden. Goalscorers were Wesley Aston (2) and Darrel Slater. (21/5/2000) At the league’s annual end of season Presentation Event Colin Carter won the Division 1 Goalkeeper of the Year Award. (Team Manager – Ged Goodwin)
