Beechy archive – 2009-2010 season
Beechfield United U10s Hurricanes Manager Paul Leonard lost one of his best player’s named Levi Rathburn who joined Manchester United’s Centre of Excellence. Levi was highly praised by David Ryan (Centre of Excellence Director) who made the following statement :-
Levi is a valid member of our U10s Squad which represents the club to a high standard. Her skill levels have developed well and she performs many of them in competitive games. A major asset is her change of pace and committment in games in which she gives valid support to her team mates. A popular member of the squad, she has an excellent learning mentality and has developed in all aspects of her game. Levi has had a good first season and will develop further in the future.
The First Team were disappointed after their Manchester Football League Division One 1-0 defeat at Wilmslow Albion. Despite a gutsy and hard-working display United’s goalscoring ability eluded them. Beechy were under pressure early on and their defence that included the impressive Tim Taylor and Stuart Christian were overworked. But United survived the early scare and responded well and had several good chances just before half time. In the second half as conditions deteriorated, slightly against the run of play the home side scored what proved to be the winning goal in the 73rd minute. United dominated the closing stages but they failed to get a deserved equalising goal. Man of the Match was Tom Carroll. (14/11/2009)
United’s Reserves lost 6-2 after extra time to Manchester Medics in Round 2 of the Manchester Amateur Cup. Guilty of wasting easy chances to take the lead United had to recover from being 2-0 but thanks to goals by Jack Tierney and Luke Johnston they were back on level terms at half-time. Neither team could find another goal in the second half but United were not prepared for the extra 30 minutes nightmare as Manchester Medics adapted better to the energy sapping pitch and hit four goals. Defender Richard Farnie was United’s Best Player. (14/11/2009)
In the 3rd Team’s Manchester Saturday Morning League Division Two match at Parswood Thursday real drama occured just before the final whistle. With only eight seconds remaining Dean Quinn scored the equaliser to earn United a 1-1 draw. Sam Viller was given the Man of the Match Award. (14/11/2009)
Sixteen of Beechfield United’s third team squad players including Manager Graham Rothwell took part in the Danny Holden 5-a-side competition at the Power League’s Soccer Dome. Organised by committee members of the Manchester Saturday Morning Football League, the event was in aid of the Danny Holden Children’s Fund and all registered clubs paid a £50 entry fee per team. Danny who played for Fielden Park FC for 18 years, had battled bravely to overcome a terrible illness but sadly he died in September 2009. (16/1/2010)
Beechy Under 12s Storm booked their place in the Stax City of Salford Soccer League’s Challenge Cup Final. In their semi-final match with Moorside Red it was 0-0 after normal time and extra time but United won a tense penalty-kick decider 5-4. Keeper Daniel Wilson saved two spot kicks then stepped up to score United’s winning penalty. The other players who were successful from the spot were Oliver Quinn, Callum Warner, Jordan Smith and Lewis Rigby. The Under 10s Storm met the Under 10s Tornados in the Challenge Cup semi-final’s and it was the Storm who secured a place in the final after a 4-0 victory. The goals came via Tom Battersby (2) Jake O’Brien and Taylor Share. Star performer for the Tornados was keeper Reiss Billingham. Despite a below average performance the Under 9s Storm reached the Knock-Out Cup Final. A goal by Alex Doyle inside the opening 30 seconds earned Beechy a 1-0 semi-final win against De La Salle Cobras who had a great chance to force extra-time but failed to convert a last minute penalty kick. (20/2/2010)

On 6th March 2010 United’s Under 14s extended their unbeaten run in the Timperley and District Junior League to 11 games with a 3-0 win over Timperley Villa Warriors in the quarter-final’s of the Divisional Cup. Following a goalless first half Beechy took full control and would have scored more goals but for the brilliance of the Timperley Villa keeper. United’s Man of the Match was hat-trick hero Aaron Keenan.
The Under 11s powered their way to an emphatic 10-0 victory over Pendlebury United Jaguars. Goalscorers were Joe McGee (3) M-O-M Lewis Massey (2) Tom Stott (2) Jack Small, Asim Munshi and Callum Lockett. (6/3/2010)
