“Hurrah” The Long Wait is Finally Over
Beechfield United’s Under 15′s Girls Team who had been sidelined for twelve weeks finally played a 9v9 match in the Bolton Bury & District Junior Football League. Obviously the girls didn’t enjoy the extended break mainly due to postponements caused by the weather but they showed no after-effects on Sunday 19th February when they beat Hindley Juniors 4-0 at Beech Farm Playing Fields. Manager David Farrand and Coach Steve Smith knew that the Girls would be looking for revenge because when the team’s met earlier in the season Hindley Juniors came out on top thanks to a 3-2 victory. Beechy dominated the first half and were a goal up after 9 minutes via Shannon Smith then four minutes later Danielle Farrand made it 2-0 following a direct free kick. Hindley Juniors briefly tested United’s defence but Shauna Smith, Emily Johnson and Rebecca Duff remained rock-solid. Goal number three arrived in the 23rd minute courtesy of Danielle Farrand and she completed her hat-trick with the fourth goal close to half time. The second half was less entertaining and Hindley Juniors who began to enjoy more of the ball looked a greater threat on the counter-attack. Megan Kenyon the Beechy keeper who had been merely a spectator in the first half was kept busy and in a five minute spell made three brilliant saves. Gradually United found a better rhythm and their accurate quick passing game improved but they couldn’t find the finish to some powerful attacks. The visitors continued to show a good fighting spirit and despite forcing several corners late in the game failed to score a consolation goal. Player of the Match was Chloe Sheerin. United’s squad on the day was :- Sarah Bates, Rebecca Duff, Danielle Farrand, Rachael Farrand, Rebecca Hill, Emily Johnson, Megan Kenyon, Chloe Sheerin, Shannon Smith, Shauna Smith and Stephanie Worsley.
