Saturday Morning Senior Team (29/10/11 to 10/12/11)
On 29th October 2011 the Saturday Morning Senior Team cruised to an emphatic 8-0 away win over Sporting Media in the Manchester Evening News Cup. United totally dominated this Round 1 tie and the result was never in doubt thanks to some superb team work and goals from Dean Quinn (3) Wes Pierce (2) Roy Owen (2) and Mark Carney. Man of the Match was Ben Donohue.
United kept a another clean sheet when they neat Manton Wanderers 6-0 at home. In this Manchester Saturday Morning League Division 1 fixture Beechy were slightly disappointed because they had enjoyed a greater share of the ball but were only 1-0 up at half-time via a goal by Mark Carney. A few tactical changes were made by Manager Graham Rothwell and Assistant Jim Walsh and United suddenly fired on all cylinders in the second half and Manton Wanderers had no answer to United’s all-round strength and ability. Roy Owen (2) Wes Pierce (2) and Phil Heyworth added further goal’s but United should really have hit double figures. (5/11/2011)
Three vital points were secured following a 2-0 victory over Smedley Rangers. At Salford Sports Village conditions were perfect for football and both teams quickly found their rhythm as they moved the ball about with both speed and accuracy on the artifical surface. Man of the Match Daniel Eckersley foiled promising attacks by Smedley Rangers on at least five occasion’s as the visitors grew in confidence. Following a goalless first half Beechy made the vital breakthrough after 51 minute’s when Roy Owen and Phil Heyworth were involved in a brilliant move that ended with Kyle Wray finding the net from close range. Play continued to move rapidly from end-to-end then in 67th minute the referee awarded Smedley Rangers a dubious penalty but their No 5 saw his spot-kick hit the post. United’s defence survived a few anxious moments before the second goal arrived on 78 minutes courtesy of an exchange of quick passes between Owen and Wes Pierce and is was the latter who displayed great skill as he cleverly took the ball past the keeper before producing a perfect finish. After a poor first-half performance against Torpedo Chorlton a below-par United trailed 1-0 at the break but they quickly got their act together and dominated the second forty five minutes. In the second period Beechy who won the match 3-2 created some excellent attacking football and Mike Heyworth equalised from the penalty spot then thanks to a well executed half-volley Wes Pierce added the goal number two and Mike Heyworth made it 3-1. Torpedo Chorlton grabbed their second goal in stoppage time. Voted Man of the Match was Full Back Andy Lord. (19/11/2011)
No excuses were offered by Manager Graham Rothwell after United lost 6-0 away to Brushes Rangers Spartak. (26/11/2011)
Thankfully United quickly returned to winning ways when they beat HBC Villa 7-2. Beechy made a whirlwind start taking the lead in less than twenty seconds and were 4-0 up at half-time. In the second half HBC Villa scored two goal’s totally against the run of play but United were always in control and collected three easy points. Mark Carney received the Man of the Match Award while the goals came via Phil Heyworth (2) Mike Heyworth, Kyle Wray, Wes Pierce, Dave Harrison and Dean Quinn. (3/12/2011) Currently United occupy third spot in the Division 1 table.
Beechy moved up to second place following a 1-0 home win over Brownley Albion. But United were less than impressive and were guilty of casually wasting possession throughout the contest. The visitors keeper made several outstanding saves especially in the first half but he was beaten in the 51st minute when Phil Heyworth produced a neat piece of skill with the ball before hammering it into the net from about 25 yards. Both Chris Lucas and Daniel Eckersley were outstanding in defence but it was the latter who was voted Man of the Match. (10/12/2011)
